Katy Aitchison, a traveller, musician, Reiki practitioner, and belly dancer, among other things, is a Kripalu certified yoga instructor as well as Ashtanga yoga instructor returning back to her native Schoharie County in 2007 after extensive travels throughout Europe and South America.
Discovering yoga in 2000, the practice began as an alternative to workouts and gyms and over the last 7 years has evolved into a lifestyle - physically, mentally, and spiritually - and her goal is to give back to the community that introduced an entirely new life to her through the practice of yoga.
Katy holds a 200-hour certification from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Lennox, Massachusetts and has studied in Madrid, Spain under the instruction of Natalia Paisano Felipe and Borja Romero-Valdespino at Ashtanga Yoga Madrid. She has also attended workshops with Maju Jois, son of Ashtanga Yoga founder Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. And as goes without saying, is eternally grateful to both Bonnie and Jack Fayssoux for introducing the practices and philosophy of yoga to her at Fit to be Tied Yoga in Cobleskill, NY.
Katy has taught yoga in New York as well as in Lima, Peru in both the Kripalu and Ashtanga traditions incorporating asana (posture) practice as well as pranayama (breath control) and chanting.
At present, Katy works not only for Fit to be Tied Yoga but also as an instructional assistant in Special Education (Children’s Communication Classroom) at the Cobleskill-Richmondville School District.
